Saanich police are looking into an incident where a security guard was allegedly assaulted at Rutledge Park.

The Saanich Police Department is investigating a "disturbance" at Rutledge Park after a man became aggressive after being approached in a public area on Sunday, July 20.

The man is alleged to have assaulted a security guard and fled the scene before police arrived, according to Saanich police, who say they collected multiple witness statements and other evidence. The man remains unidentified.

“We understand how unsettling this was for families in the park, and we commend the security guard for their professionalism under difficult circumstances,” said Insp. Damian Kowalewich in an emailed statement. “No major injuries were reported, support has been offered to the guard, and our investigation continues with a focus on public safety and accountability.”
