The draft Quadra McKenzie Plan outlines significant transformations including the introduction of rapid transit along McKenzie Avenue and enhanced cycling facilities on Quadra Street.

The District of Saanich is seeking public feedback on an ambitious draft plan that could reshape the Quadra-McKenzie area over the next two decades, with major changes proposed for transportation, housing, and commercial development.

The draft Quadra McKenzie Plan, which has been in development since fall 2022, outlines significant transformations including the introduction of rapid transit along McKenzie Avenue and enhanced cycling facilities on Quadra Street.

The plan proposes creating several commercial hubs along both streets, designed to provide residents with walking-distance access to daily services and amenities. Higher-density housing developments are planned along both corridors, aiming to address the ongoing housing crisis while maintaining the area's tree canopy.

The district has scheduled multiple public engagement opportunities, including 90-minute online webinars on Oct. 30 at noon and 6:30 p.m. (To register, visit www.saanich.ca/QMS) and in-person open houses at the Saanich Centre, 105 – 3995 Quadra St., on Nov. 2 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Nov. 5 from 4 to 8 p.m. Residents can also provide feedback through an online survey at HelloSaanich. The draft plan is available for viewing on the Saanich website.

Following this round of public engagement, district staff will incorporate feedback into a final document for council consideration in spring 2025.
