The Beckwith Park splash pad reopened on May 17, but the Rutledge Park facility will remain closed until early July

While one of Saanich’s splash pads reopened Saturday, another stayed dry.

On May 17, the district switched on the taps at the Beckwith Park splash pad, which will remain open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. from now until mid-October.

However, those hoping to cool off at the Rutledge Park splash pad will have to wait, as engineers work to fix “operational issues” identified last summer.

“In 2024, staff were made aware that trace chlorine amounts detected in the potable water from the splash pad entering the storm water system were higher than the provincial standard for aquatic life. Potable water contains chlorine to protect human health but is not healthy for aquatic life,” Saanich said in a news release.

"The ... splash pad will not be opening this long weekend to complete permanent changes to its water discharge system."

Pending necessary approvals, the district says it aims to reopen the splash pad in early July. The rest of Rutledge Park – including its playground, sport courts and walking paths – remain open.
