Students made their marks on the new Cedar Hill Middle School on Monday (June 10), signing beams destined to form a foundation of the school.
Students in Grades 6 to 8 wrote their names on a horizontal beam later hoisted into place on the north side of the school under construction adjacent to their current classrooms.
The new school is designed to hold 575 students in seismically safer learning spaces and will feature an Indigenous welcome centre.
The redevelopment will be the greenest building in the school district according to the province. It will be built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design equivalents. The school is expected to be providing a 90 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to a traditionally built school.
The Greater Victoria School District anticipates the new Cedar Hill Middle School will open in fall 2025.
