As Earth Day approaches, a Saanich festival aims to inspire collective action through celebration, education and entertainment.
“Saanich’s Earth Day Festival is a fun, family-friendly event to learn the many ways to take climate action, together,” Sustainability and Climate Action Advisory Committee chair and Coun. Judy Brownoff said in a news release.
The event, taking place in the district's municipal hall parking lot on April 19, will feature live music from Jill Cooper, Nice Verdes, Olivia Jackson and Charis Tazumi, alongside vendors, free art activities and food trucks with vegan and vegetarian food options. Partner organizations, including urban farming to environmental conservation groups, will have interactive information booths on display and items for sale.
There will also be a bike skills course, run by Capital Bike, and a chance to sit in the driver's seat of a fire engine.
The district encourages attendees to come by bike or public transport. The parking lot is accessible by bike just off the Lochside Regional Trail, with valet bike parking provided by The Locker. BC Transit buses 70, 71, 72 and 75 all stop just outside Municipal Hall.
"Come by and celebrate our planet – we can all help lessen our impact on our climate daily and in fun ways," Brownoff said in the news release.
The event runs April 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, visit: saanich.ca.
