Saanich’s Gordon Fyfe is being appointed to the Order of British Columbia.

Fyfe was named for his advocacy and for achieving “extraordinary results” as the CEO of the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI).

The corporation’s investments have jumped from $112 billion to $235 billion. The investments for which Fyfe is accountable provide 75 cents of every dollar in public-sector pensions.

BCI was among the first institutional investors in Canada to sign the Principles for Responsible Investment. Fyfe led an initiative that provides opportunities for Indigenous youth to gain finance and asset management expertise.

The corporation has also launched a program with Vancouver Island University that offers scholarships and work experience and teaches people about financial literacy.

Fyfe has overseen an investor group managing $7.3 trillion worth of assets that encourages companies to have diverse staff including underrepresented communities.

The Order of British Columbia is the province’s highest honour, and 13 others were also appointed this year.

“While they are not officially part of the Marvel Universe, these 14 remarkable individuals are superheroes,” B.C. Premier David Eby said in a news release. “They have contributed in unique and profound ways to our province, our nation and beyond, through leadership, selflessness and generosity. Congratulations to all on their appointment to the Order of British Columbia.”

The Order of B.C. investiture ceremony will be at Government House in the late fall.

“As representative of the Crown in British Columbia and as chancellor of the Order of British Columbia, I am honoured to welcome these 14 members,” B.C. Lt.-Gov. Janet Austin said. “This honour is a mark of excellence, reflected in the service and achievements of these incredible British Columbians. Their accomplishments have left an indelible mark on their communities, and ensuing legacies will impact our province to the benefit of future generations. It is my great pleasure to share my congratulations to all new appointments to the order.”
