The Spirit of Vancouver Island and Spirit of British Columbia sailings scheduled for the night of Dec. 25 have been cancelled due to strong winds.

Departures from Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen for 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. were called off over “adverse weather conditions in the Strait of Georgia,” according to a service notice BC Ferries issued late afternoon.

“The final scheduled sailings this evening will be the 5 p.m. departures from both Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen,” read the notice. “The safety of our passengers and crew is of primary importance to us. We will continue to monitor this weather system and share further information as it becomes available.”

BC Ferries told customers with bookings on the cancelled sailings that they will be refund fees.
