Norma Flach from Victoria won a $1 million prize from Lotto Max.

Victoria's Norma Flach says she was in shock when she discovered she won a $1 million prize from the Aug. 9 Lotto Max draw.

According to a news release, she couldn't wait to share the news with her husband, but not before taking "precautionary steps" to prepare him for the life-changing news.

“I asked him to sit down,” Flach said in the release. “He first thought I was going to share something bad, but I kept repeating, ‘It’s good news!’. When I finally told him I won he was in disbelief, and I had to repeat myself.”

She purchased and validated the winning ticket at Tillicum Centre Mall in Victoria, and she said it was "super surreal" when the employee at the lottery kiosk told her she won.

Though she has no immediate plans for her win, the retiree plans to continue enjoying her retirement.

“I love to garden and travel in my free time. Plants and plane tickets, that’s what I enjoy," she said in the release. "This win means I can enjoy retirement and continue travelling.”

So far in 2024, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $109 million from Lotto Max. Lotto Max is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Tuesdays and Fridays after 7:30 p.m.
