Sooke RCMP announced they executed two search warrants on Thursday, Jan. 30 at two properties on Kemp Lake and Walse Roads, resulting in the seizure of what they say is a large amount of illicit drugs, and other paraphernalia, suggesting a drug distribution centre.
“This is a significant seizure for Sooke. With the rapid growth of our community we are taking steps to create dedicated specialized teams in Sooke to target drug operations,” said S/Sgt. Greg Willcocks, detachment commander of Sooke RCMP.
“Sooke RCMP will continue to target these operations and ensure that the people involved in the distribution of dangerous and illegal drugs are brought to justice.”
Sooke RCMP seized approximately 3.5 kilograms of what they suspect to be methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine. Additionally, RCMP seized counterfeit U.S. currency, Canadian cash, a money counter and other items they say suggested an illegal drug distribution operation.
The execution of the search warrants resulted in the arrest of two individuals, a 53-year-old man from Sooke and a 33-year-old woman with no fixed address.
The two individuals have since been released on an undertaking to appear in court on April 10.
The search and seizure was a collaborative effort by Sooke RCMP with assistance from the Island District RCMP Emergency Response Team, the Island District General Investigation Section and the Island District RCMP Forensic Identification Section.
