Over 200 people attended the first of three panel discussions at Victoria’s First Metropolitan Church on Jan. 29, exploring the origins of the toxic drug crisis, its causes, and potential solutions.

Peers Victoria’s 2025 speaker series on the toxic drug crisis concludes March 26 with a discussion featuring past and present substance users alongside harm reduction advocate Guy Felicella.

The event will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at First Metropolitan Church in Victoria (932 Balmoral Rd.) and will focus on personal experiences of recovery and wellness.

Participants will share their perspectives on how B.C.’s substance-use supports have both helped and hindered them.

Keynote speakers include Sekani Dalketh, a two-spirit trans woman and facilitator known for bringing substance users and service providers together to address stigma, and Ann Livingston, a long-time activist who co-founded the Vancouver and Area Network of Drug Users (VANDU) and played a key role in establishing Canada’s first government-sanctioned safe injection site in 2003.

This marks the final event in Peers Victoria’s speaker series, Out of Harm’s Way: Insight, Innovation and Action to End the Toxic Drug Crisis. The event is free and open to the public.
