Victoria Police arrested an assault suspect after a report of a stabbing in James Bay Tuesday night (March 12).
VicPD responded to a report of a stabbing around 9:30 p.m. at a multi-unit residential building in the 200-block of Michigan Street. Police found the victim outside the unit and transported them to hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the suspect refused to exit the residence and barricaded themselves inside the unit. Officers then secured the area and advised residents of the building to shelter in place.
Members of the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team, including crisis negotiators, were on the scene and worked to resolve the incident for several hours.
However, police said extensive efforts to communicate with the suspect and de-escalate the situation had minimal success. VicPD was issued a warrant to enter the property at around 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Emergency response team members breached the door to the residence and arrested the suspect without incident. The suspect remains in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
