Christmas is set to be a blustery one for Vancouver Island with a wind warning kicking things off Monday (Dec. 23) as stormy weather is set to continue through the week.
Monday, beginning in the afternoon, a low pressure centre off the coast of B.C. will bring strong winds, according to Environment Canada.
The winds, expected to be 70 km/h gusting to 100, will intensify in the evening near Greater Victoria and the Southern Gulf Islands and spread further north into the Strait of Georgia by mid-evening before easing by the morning.
The weather moves out Tuesday, followed by a powerful frontal system set to arrive on the south coast and Vancouver Island early Wednesday (Dec. 25) morning. Very strong winds and heavy rain are expected to last until late in the evening.
Predictions for Boxing Day show a weaker low-pressure system set to approach Vancouver Island late in the day spreading strong winds across Vancouver Island and the south coast overnight.
Weather warnings will be issued if necessary as confidence in the storm tracks and impacts grows, Environment Canada said in a special weather statement.
