The Township of Esquimalt announced the continuation of the “successful” business façade improvement program, which offers financial assistance and design services to businesses looking to revitalize their building exterior.

On Monday, March 4, applications opened for the second year of the program, in which business and property owners receive a renovation grant and the program will provide an architect to assist with design support.

“A vibrant community starts with attractive and welcoming storefronts,” said Esquimalt Mayor Barbara Desjardins in a news release. “This program not only enhances the visual appeal of our commercial areas but also supports our local businesses and boosts the overall economic health of Esquimalt.”

“This program was easy to use. It helps landlords invest and take pride in the condition of their buildings,” noted Suzanne Bradbury, co-owner of Fort Properties, which owns commercial space on Esquimalt Road that went through a transformation in 2023.

This year’s program offers a one-time renovation grant of 50 per cent reimbursement of up to $5,000 per project with a single-face improvement, and $10,000 for projects on a corner lot.

A panel of representatives from the chamber and the township will review applications to confirm eligibility. Applications will be accepted at www.esquimalt.ca until Oct. 30, on the condition that the project can be fully executed by Dec. 15.
