Dry days are coming for Greater Victoria as temperatures are anticipated to climb to 28 C on the weekend, with rain far out in the forecast.

Starting with highs of 24 C today (Aug. 21), Greater Victoria residents can look forward to an even warmer weekend and dry days ahead.

The heat is on for Victoria with sunny skies for days and no rain in the forecast until the end of August, just in time for the Labour Day weekend.

A high of 27 C is expected Friday, with the hottest anticipated day Saturday at 28, and 27 again Sunday and Monday, according to Environment Canada. Overnight lows for those days range from 12 to 14 C. As usual, cooler temperatures prevail near the water.

Continued dry weather means continued extreme fire rating, necessitating added precautions when using regional parks and green spaces. Vancouver Island has faced three significant wildfires so far this summer, with two classified as under control. The large Mount Underwood fire south of Port Alberni, discovered Aug. 11, is classified as “being held” at 3,548 hectares on Aug. 20.

A campfire ban remains in effect, and the Victoria Fire Department continues to remind folks that beach fires are always prohibited in the city, and across much of the region, year-round. That includes propane fire pits.
