Victoria police have taken a man into custody in connection with the alleged assault of a woman in Pioneer Square.

The woman said she was physically assaulted late Thursday (Oct. 19) morning, and a suspect proceeded to run into Christ Church Cathedral.

Victoria police say they quickly captured a suspect, and there are no other outstanding suspects at this time.

“Everyone in the park is safe,” a Victoria police officer on the scene said.

The woman said she wasn’t hurt but was really shaken up. She wasn’t taken to hospital.

A witness said the suspect was intoxicated and punched the woman, and a group of five people in the park quickly came to stop the assault.
