Suspect on the loose after Sidney bank robber flees with cash

The Sidney/North Saanich RCMP are investigating a bank robbery that occurred on Monday (March 24) afternoon at the Scotiabank located at 2355 Beacon Ave. in Sidney.

Police are appealing to the public for any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect.

Shortly after 2 p.m., a man entered the Scotiabank branch, approached a teller and presented a note demanding cash.

The suspect successfully obtained an undisclosed amount of money and fled the bank on foot, heading southbound towards Bevan Avenue.

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP, with help from the Central Saanich Police Service and the RCMP Police Dog Service did an extensive search of the area. The suspect remains at large.

Police say the suspect is Caucasian, approximately 5'8", with a stocky build, and was seen wearing a black coat with fur around the hood, surgical face mask, black pants, black sneakers and a black backpack.  
 
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who possesses relevant information, including surveillance video or dash camera footage from the area surrounding Beacon Avenue between 1:30 and 3 p.m. March 24, is encouraged to contact the Sidney/North Saanich RCMP at 250-656-3931.
