Summer evenings of local music, art and food are just around the corner.
The Sooke Night Market has announced their triumphant return with their 12th annual season, which will kick off Thursday, June 5 and continue every Thursday after until Aug. 28.
The event is hosted by the Sooke Region Museum and highlights a rich community heritage of food producers, artists and artisans.
“It is a place for residents and visitors to learn about and enjoy local talent and fresh, local, in-season foods. Connect with friends, family and neighbours. Eat, enjoy performances by local musicians, and sing karaoke on the first Thursday of each month,” the Sooke Region Museum announced in a press release.
Attractions and exhibits at the museum, which is free to enter, will also be easily accessible. Popular demand is seeing the return of Moss Cottage and Triangle Island Lighthouse, which will be open during the market. The Forestry Path is another standout outdoor exhibit that gives a glimpse into Sooke's forest industry.
The museum will also welcome back some returning favourites alongside new local farmers.
“People come to the Sooke Night Market week after week to enjoy the atmosphere, for the community gathering experience, the opportunity to talk directly to farmers and the reassurance they are eating fresh, locally sourced food,” the museum states.
For non-foodies, live music and local makers inspired by Sooke will contribute in large part to the market's atmosphere.
“Why choose local? You are directly supporting farmers and other local businesses. Buy your food directly from the farmer to support local growers. Buy your clothes, beauty products, candles, soap, jewellery, cards to support local makers,” the museum states.
“It all strengthens our local economy and builds connections in our community.”
The Sooke Night Market will open on Thursday, June 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. and continue every Thursday until Aug. 28.
