Cyclists participating in the Ironman 70.3 Victoria will take to the roads this Sunday, May 25, for the 90-kilometre bike portion of the event.
The cycling leg will see triathletes navigating a scenic route throughout the Saanich Peninsula from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
While all roads will remain open to the public during the race, motorists are advised to expect potential delays and exercise caution in the vicinity of the course.
Police and traffic control personnel will be stationed at key intersections to manage traffic flow and ensure the safety of both athletes and drivers.
Specifically, travellers planning to access Victoria International Airport via West Saanich Road should consider alternative routes or allocate additional travel time to minimize any potential disruption.

The bike route will begin on Lochside Drive. It includes turns onto Malaview Ave, Resthaven Drive, McDonald Park Road and navigating sections of Swartz Bay Road (Highway 17 overpass), Wain Road, Tatlow Road, Lands End Road (becoming Chalet Road), Birch Road, Madrona Drive, Downey Road, Wallace Drive and Willis Point Drive. A turnaround point is situated at Heartland Access Road.
The Ironman 70.3 Victoria is a significant sporting event that sees athletes from around the world compete in a challenging triathlon.
Race organizers just cancelled the 1.9-km swim in Elk Lake due to unsafe water conditions; the 90-km bike course and a 21.1-km run around Elk and Beaver Lakes will proceed as usua.
The race will now commence with the bike time trial at 6:30 a.m. in the transition area, which opens at 5:30 a.m.
Spectators are encouraged to cheer on the athletes along the route while remembering to prioritize safety and follow the instructions of traffic personnel.
