People in Greater Victoria can ride transit buses for free Monday (April 22) as the region celebrates Earth Day.
Taking public transit is one way to make a difference, BC Transit said in a news release.
“Earth Day highlights the importance of sustainability and encourages people to make choices that reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs) and help protect our environment,” the transit operator said.
The Crown corporation added funding is in place for 141 electric buses provincewide as it aims to have a fully electrified fleet by 2040.
Greater Victoria expected to get its first 10 electric buses in 2023, but the California company contracted to deliver them going bankrupt delayed that timeline. BC Transit in March said it would be announcing good news regarding its electrification program in the coming months.
