This April, the Tsartlip First Nation will empower its young through a variety of programs and opportunities.

This April, the Tsartlip First Nation will host a series of youth-empowering activities and training opportunities, including a conference on April 25 and 26 at the Songhees Wellness Centre in Victoria.

Themed "Building the Economic State of Our Culture," the Indigenous Youth Conference promises to be a collaborative space fostering knowledge sharing between knowledge keepers, youth and community leaders. Participants will explore innovative solutions and envision new possibilities for the future.

The regional conference will feature panel discussions, workshops and interactive sessions designed to equip attendees with the tools and insights necessary to drive actionable change within their communities.

Key themes include prosperity, healing, Indigenous Food Sovereignty and Land Stewardship, identity, wellness, media, arts and storytelling.

More information on the event, organized by the Indigenous Prosperity Centre in collaboration with the Indigenous Youth Steering Committee, can be found at indigenousyouthconference.ca.

The Tsartlip First Nation is also calling on its youth to become youth champions for the nation's Land Use Plan. Organizers seek three to four Tsartlip youth to share their visions for and help shape the community's future.

Interested youth are encouraged to email Isiah Desjarlais at projectcoordinator@tsartlip.com by April 25 with their name, age and a brief statement expressing their passion for the community. Participants will receive an honorarium in the form of Sports and Recreation gift cards.

Finally, Songhees Tours is hosting a Youth Information and Hiring Fair on Monday (April 28), in the Oceanview Room of the Songhees Wellness Centre from 12 to 4 p.m., where youth are invited to apply for positions such as canoe skipper, tour guide, canoe puller or kiosk attendant.

Accompanying training opportunities will also be offered, including puller training, first aid, marine basic first aid, introduction to storytelling and canoe skipper open water training.
