The University of Victoria's Department of Theatre and Neworld Theatre are set to premiere a groundbreaking play that brings the realities of climate change to the stage.

"Eyes of the Beast: Climate Disaster Survivor Stories" opens Monday, Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Phoenix Theatre, offering a poignant look at how ordinary Canadians are grappling with extraordinary environmental challenges.

Adapted from the award-winning journalism of UVic's Climate Disaster Project, the production weaves together hundreds of testimonies from across the country. Audiences will witness stories ranging from a fishing guide's wildlife rescue efforts to an actor's struggle with heatstroke and a mother's concerns for her child's future in a fire-ravaged landscape.

Following the performance, attendees are invited to participate in a facilitated talkback, providing an opportunity to process the stories and share their own experiences with climate disasters.
