Victoria Police Department investigators are looking for public assistance in identifying a woman who bear sprayed a man on Johnson Street Bridge during the evening of Saturday, Oct. 5.
According to VicPD, one witness saw a group of what appeared to be youths bear spray the victim before running away. The victim, who suffered the effects of the bear spray, received minor injuries.
"Officers conducted a search for the suspects, but due to limited descriptions, were unable to make an arrest," noted a news release.
CCTV footage obtained shows what police say is a group of apparent youths walking eastbound on the bridge, with the victim walking through the group. Moments later, a "young female" is seen taking a can of bear spray and spraying the male victim in the face and after the incident, the group departed westbound on the bridge.
CCTV also captured some of the youths filming the incident on their cell phones prior to departing westbound.
Police are looking to speak to witnesses about the incident, or anyone who can help identify the suspect to come forward. Anyone with details about the incident are asked to call the report desk at 250-995-7654, extension 1, and reference file number 24-36610.
