Signs saying “No Public Washrooms!” can be found all over downtown Victoria.

So people looking for some relief will be happy to know there’s a new public option for when they really have to go. The City of Victoria just opened a new public washroom that will be open 24/7 at the busy corner of Broughton Street and Douglas Street.

The prefabricated washroom unit, like the Langley Loo on Langley Street, “provides additional accessibility features for people with a wide range of abilities,” said a city news release.

This includes an accessible parking stall that has been installed next to the washroom.

The washroom will be cleaned twice per day, seven days per week, said the city, and its contracted security team will conduct security checks during hours of operation.

“The Broughton Loo increases access to public washrooms in the downtown core and reduces impacts to businesses located near late-night hospitality venues,” said the city. “The project was launched in 2021 following a report on late-night activity in the downtown core. The location was selected for its compatibility with transportation and safety requirements.”

You can find more toilet options on the city’s website.
