The non-profit, which rehabilitates and helps foster homeless animals, goes through $200 worth of cat food (48 cans) a day.

The Victoria Pet Adoption Society is hosting a bottle drive next month to raise money for animals in need.

The charity, which rehabilitates and finds homes for homeless critters, is asking the public to bring cans and bottles to the Bottle Depot at 2461 Glanford Ave. on April 5, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Funded solely by adoption fees, fundraising events and donations from the public, the society will use proceeds to help spay/neuter, microchip, immunize, feed and look after cats and dogs.

"With recent changes to the economy, donations from members of the public are down because many families no longer have disposable income," the society said in an email. "This, coupled with the fact that the cost of veterinary care, pet food and other supplies have gone up, is making things increasingly difficult for charities like ourselves that rely on donations."

Five other fundraisers for the society will take place at the Bottle Depot on May 31, July 6, Aug. 9, Sept. 6 and Oct. 18.
