The Fernwood Community & Arts Association (FCAA) is hosting a three-day fundraiser to help preserve the Little Fernwood venue, a key cultural hub in Victoria.

A staple of Victoria’s Fernwood art scene is seeking public support to finance important renovations.

The Fernwood Community & Arts Association (FCAA) is hosting a three-day fundraiser to help preserve the Little Fernwood venue, a key cultural hub in Victoria.

The Little Fernwood Reno Fundraiser, running from Jan. 17-19, aims to raise money to replace the floors and complete other renovations at the city-owned multi-purpose building located at 1923 Fernwood Rd.

The venue has long been a vital neighbourhood arts and culture performance space, hosting everything from live theatre and art exhibits to punk shows and community programming. The venue also offers craft fairs and various other activities.

“This space provides a low-barrier opportunity for artists of all ages and mediums to showcase their craft in a safe and accessible space,” said Tyler Akis, FCAA board member. “I’ve been organizing punk shows here since I was 16, and I’m still doing it at 35.”

A $10,000 Cultural Infrastructure Grant from the City of Victoria has been secured, but matching funds are needed to replace the floors in February. An online campaign in December raised $5,700, and the upcoming fundraiser aims to close the gap.

The fundraiser includes events at Little Fernwood’s Paul Phillips Hall, Little Fernwood Gallery, and the Store Front Studio. The event schedule includes a silent auction, a variety show, music concerts, yoga sessions and more.

Suggested donations are $25 for adults and $10 for youth.
