As summer ends and people look to a wet fall, many are forgetting that fire conditions are still at extreme levels – even near the water in Victoria.
An overnight beach fire on Dallas Road burned approximately 300 square metres of greenspace, just metres from the site of another damaging beach fire in July, according to a City of Victoria Facebook post.
“A reminder that while temperatures have cooled, it’s still very dry and fires can start easily,” said the city.
For public safety and environmental protection, the city offers these reminders:
No smoking in parks or on beaches at any time.
No propane or natural gas appliances at any time.
Call 911 if you see a fire or smell smoke.
“Please enjoy beaches and parks safely.”
