Victoria gas station fire deemed non-suspicious

Crews quickly doused the early morning fire

The charred exterior of a gas pump and caution tape lining the exterior of the Douglas Street Petro-Canada marked the impact of an early morning fire at the site on Wednesday (March 27).

While the cause of the fire is not yet known, a City of Victoria spokesperson said the fire is not considered suspicious. Nobody was injured in the incident and damages were minimal.

The Victoria Fire Department received multiple calls about about the fire shortly after 3 a.m. The gas pump was “fully involved” and flames were extending to the canopy above the pumps when crews arrived.

The city spokesperson said despite the obvious concerns about a fire at a gas station, crews were able to knock down the blaze quickly.

“Needless to say, this incident may have been MUCH worse if not for the multiple 911 calls from members of the public and the lightning-fast response time from the Victoria Fire Department,” the Victoria Firefighters Association said in an Instagram post.
