Students of Victoria High School are going to have to wait another month until they can move back into the school, according to a letter from principal Aaron Parker.

The letter stated that the structural reinforcement and construction of the new buildings are almost finished, but the interior work has been delayed.

“Unfortunately, the completion of some of the interior work has been delayed, specifically the electrical and flooring scope,” said Parker in the letter. “Although this work is nearing completion, following recent occupancy reviews, it was decided that the school could not be safely occupied by students and staff while this remaining interior work was completed.”

Originally, the school was expected to be completed in February 2024, but students and staff will have to wait to return in March 2024.

During the last few weeks of construction, students will continue to attend S.J. Willis swing site and for shop classes bus to the Fairey Technical Wing.

“Students and staff are our top priority, and we are working with the contractor and consultants to ensure that the building meets City requirements for occupancy and that the remaining work is completed as soon as possible,” said Parker.

The provincial government has contributed $77.1 million for seismic improvements, and a 200-seat expansion while the high school has been undergoing renovations and upgrades since 2020. The school district is paying $2.6 million.

“The District remains committed to providing updates as they become available, including a specific move-in date as the project moves closer to compilation,” stated Parker. “We thank you for your continued flexibility and understanding as we move closer to completion of the project and are excited to return to a beautiful and safe building.”
