Seven new police officers were welcomed into the ranks of the Victoria Police Department (VicPD) as part of a plan to add 24 officers overall in 2024.

The new members of the VicPD family were received by VicPD staff members as well as their friends and relatives.

“The seven officers I had the honour of swearing in today represent the future of the Victoria Police Department and are the first group of the 24 officers we plan to hire in 2024,” said Chief Const. Del Manak, in a news release. “VicPD continues to be a competitive employer of choice and I can tell you there has never been a more exciting time to Join VicPD.”

Each of these recruits brings a wealth of experience in volunteering and community service, which will enable them to effectively serve the communities of Victoria and Esquimalt.

Among the recruits, some were already familiar faces within the VicPD family. Three of them had previously participated in VicPD’s volunteer Reserve Constable program, while three had worked as VicPD Special Municipal Constables. Additionally, two recruits had prior experience working for EComm, VicPD’s dispatch and call-taking service provider.

These new additions to the VicPD team come from diverse backgrounds. Among them, you’ll find a National University Volleyball champion, a black belt jiu-jitsu instructor, and a mental health and addictions worker. This varied pool of talent reflects VicPD’s commitment to attracting high-quality candidates from across the country.

“What sets us apart at VicPD is the quality of our people. We are committed to ensuring that we continue hiring only the very best to serve the communities of Victoria and Esquimalt.”
