Victoria police say a 67-year-old man was stabbed on Oct. 30 in James Bay and officers want to speak with a woman who checked on the man.

Police got a report about a man who had been stabbed in the 400-block of Michigan Street just after 7:30 p.m. on the Monday night last month.

Officers learned that the man had been in a designated smoking area when he was approached by a man asking for money, VicPD said in a Nov. 3 news release. When the victim said he had no money, the suspect struck the victim with a large knife on his hand and face, police said.

The suspect then left the scene on foot. The 67-year-old man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the hospital.

VicPD said a woman described as 5’11” and “nicely dressed” stopped to check on the injured man before leaving the scene. Police want to speak to her to see if she can offer information about the incident.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 250-995-7654 ext. 1, or report anonymously by calling Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
