Brasserie L’Ecole is the latest in a long run of Victoria businesses to seek community support as they fight to keep their doors open.
“For over two decades, Brasserie L’Ecole has been more than just a place to eat – it has been a home away from home for countless Victorians,” Brasserie L’Ecole stated on the GoFundMe page they established to support the business.
The small French restaurant has served the community since 2001 and has faced many challenges in recent years, such as the COVID-19 pandemic which nearly shut them down. They say they are still “playing financial catch-up" and rising costs, lingering debt and other economic hurdles are making it more difficult for them to remain in business.
“We fought to keep serving the people who have supported us for so long, and now, we are asking for your help once again,” Brasserie L’Ecole states in a release.
“Like many local businesses, we are still playing financial catch-up. Rising costs, economic hurdles and lingering debt have made it difficult to keep up, but we are determined to continue serving the community that has given us so much.”
The restaurant is now aiming to raise $100,000 to help them stabilize, invest in the restaurant and keep the business running. Through the GoFundMe page the team established, they have already reached 76 per cent of their $7,500 goal.
“Your generosity will not only help us stay open but will also allow us to continue giving back in the ways we always have – whether it’s supporting local charities, sourcing from nearby farmers, or being a place where everyone feels at home,” they said.
“If you’ve ever laughed over a meal here, shared a drink with a friend, or felt the warmth of our hospitality, we ask you to consider donating.”
