Another Victoria restaurant is seeing a shakeup after five years in business.
Sherwood Victoria, located at 710 Pandora Ave., announced on Instagram that Sept. 29 will be its last day of service as it’s been sold. Sherwood is known for its breakfasts and lunches, coffee bar, patio and cocktails.
The farewell post described in honest detail the damage wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic and the long hours required to run a business. The post also says the space will be taken over by a new set of owners.
“It’s been quite the journey the last five years,” reads the post. “Opening an all-day cafe & bar was something that I always wanted to do and felt our city deserved. I still feel that way and I’m so incredibly proud of everything that we’ve done.
“But restaurants can be tough. Especially after getting knocked sideways by a pandemic so soon after opening when you’re only just finding your feet. I’m exhausted, my family needs me, and my staff have done the work of heroes for way too long. Ultimately, an offer has come in from some truly great local people who will take over the space with some fresh ideas and more importantly, the needed energy and resources to make sure this amazing community space continues. This is not my choice of medium for expression but I do want to thank everyone who has made Sherwood the special place that it is.”
Customers responded to the Instagram post with lots of love about what the restaurant meant to them.
“Lovely to read all these comments pal,” wrote @goodtimeguy. “You made something really special and we are all super proud to know you.”
‘Congratulations on a hard decision and the heart-felt way you shared that Shane,” wrote @bowkercreekflowerfarm. “Your community leadership shows through that simple act of being vulnerable. I’m really happy for you!”
“Sherwood saw so much life and love in its 5 years,” wrote @charlottenand. “I am so lucky to have called it my home. Thinking of you, and the team during this time – I admire your bravery and I am in awe of your leadership and vision. What a beautiful journey this has been.”
