The Victoria Hockey Legacy Society (VHLS) has been named co-winner of the Greater Victoria Sports Award for Event of the Year for hosting Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada in January 2024 at Victoria’s Ship Point.
The event drew more than 15,000 people and featured family-friendly activities, a sold-out alumni game, and a full-day broadcast showcasing Victoria’s downtown and South Island to over 8.5 million viewers.
“One year later, there is still a buzz in our community and in rinks around our region after the success of [this event],” VHLS co-chair Brenda MacFarlane said.
VHLS is now preparing to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Victoria Cougars’ 1925 Stanley Cup win.
The Century Celebration will kick off on March 27 at Bard and Banker (1022 Government St.). Over the weekend, family events will follow, including a public viewing of the Stanley Cup at Oak Bay Recreation Centre.
