A Victoria high-school student won first place in the Pacific Salmon Foundation’s annual Kids Salmon Art Contest age 14 to 18 category.
“I was captivated by the remarkable life cycle of salmon, from how they spawn in freshwater to their journey in the ocean and back again to reproduce while facing immense challenges along the way. Learning about their journey deepened my appreciation for these incredible fish,” said Victoria's Jayla Boudewyn, 17, in a news release.
The contest received more than 300 salmon-inspired art submissions from students across B.C. and the Yukon, and kids aged four to 17 contributed their creative interpretations with the goal of raising awareness about the challenges salmon face amid climate change and habitat loss.
In the release, Boudewyn noted that she drew inspiration from the "vibrant and dynamic ecosystem of the Pacific salmon."
