A 33-year-old motorcycle rider was arrested by West Shore RCMP after a hit-and-run in Colwood.

On June 9 at 12:48 p.m., police attended a parking lot on Metchosin Road after a report of a man who appeared to be intoxicated was trying to start a motorcycle.

The suspect tried to flee but police managed to catch him and arrest him, and they observed the motorcycle matched the description of a motorcycle involved in a hit and run that was reported to police earlier in the day.

Police had received a complaint that a motorcycle side-swiped a vehicle on Sooke Road in Metchosin. They say the motorcycle was illegally driving on the shoulder when it side swiped a Mazda CX-5.

"The suspect was also prohibited from driving at the time of his arrest and was bound by conditions to not be in the driver’s seat of any motor vehicle," noted a release from West Shore RCMP.

The motorcycle was impounded and the suspect was arrested and released with a later court date. He was charged with breach of release order, wilfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer, refusing to provide a breath sample, and four counts of driving while prohibited.
