A man with gunshot wounds was discovered at the scene of a single-vehicle collision in Metchosin by West Shore RCMP.
The crash occurred on Monday (Dec. 30) at approximately 3:09 a.m. on Kangaroo Road in Metchosin between Sooke Road and Lindholm Road, said the RCMP in a news release.
A white 2002 Hyundai Accent was located in a ditch, with a 40-year-old male driver who had sustained gunshot wounds to his body.
The man was taken to the hospital to receive care for serious life-threatening injuries.
Police believe the shooting took place at another location and the man drove himself to the scene of the collision.
They have said this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.
No arrests have been made, and police say no further information will be released while the investigation is ongoing.
Police are seeking witnesses and are asking anyone with information to contact the West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.
Additionally, they are asking anyone who was travelling in the area of Kangaroo Road on Dec. 30 between midnight and 4 a.m., to check their dashcam footage and call police as they may have captured information that could assist police in this investigation.
