Update: West Shore RCMP looking for rush hour hit and run suspect

West Shore RCMP are looking for the person who was driving a black truck and drove into a red Hyundai Elantra on Thursday, July 4 around 5:30 p.m. on the Trans-Canada Highway in View Royal.

West Shore RCMP said on X, formerly known as Twitter, the driver of the truck identified themselves to police on July 7, and an investigation is underway.

West Shore RCMP are looking for a hit and run suspect from a July 4 incident.

Around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, RCMP responded to a crash in the northbound lanes of the 1900 block of the Trans-Canada Highway in View Royal. After examining the scene, it was discovered a red Hyundai Elantra was travelling with a black pick up truck behind it. When the truck went to pass the Elantra, it collided twice, causing damage to the vehicle. 

After the collision, the driver of the truck stopped briefly, before deciding to drive away without exchanging information.

The people in the vehicle didn't sustain any injuries but the Elantra sustained significant damage.

The truck and the driver is described as:

  • Black pick up truck unknown make and model;
  • Driven by a Caucasian male in his 40’s;
  • Grey collar length hair;
  • Wearing a blue and white polo shirt and shorts.

This hit and run took place during rush hour and not only impacted the victim but had the potential to put other motorists in harm's way, said West Shore RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Nancy Saggar.

Officers are asking the driver of the truck to come forward, as well as any drivers who may have witnessed the incident, were in the area at the time of the incident, have dashcam footage, or have any other information regarding the incident, to call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or Crimestoppers to stay anonymous at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
