Police plan to recommend weapons charges after a well-being call in Langford netted a loaded replica firearm.

West Shore RCMP were called to the 700-block of Goldstream Avenue on Wednesday (June 5) to check on a man showing symptoms of being heavily under the influence of drugs.

Officers located a 36-year-old man matching the description with a collapsible baton, which is considered a prohibited weapon, next to him, RCMP said in a news release.

The man was arrested and searched. Officers located a replica handgun loaded with replica ammunition as well as a folding knife on the suspect. The man does not have any prior weapons-related convictions and there were no reports of the suspect threatening to use the weapons.

The suspect was held in custody until he became sober and was released on conditions to not be in possession of weapons and to attend court.
