West Shore RCMP are thanking a local taxi driver for helping out a person in need.
Police responded to a call on June 13 about two intoxicated youths wandering in and out of traffic on Jacklin Road in Langford. Police found a male and female who needed to be taken back to their guardians.
The male youth was taken home, but the female was having an anxiety attack, exacerbated by the presence of police and BC Emergency Health Services paramedics. Police called a taxi for the youth. Verrinder Bharmota picked up the youth and drove them home, followed by police.
“The youth had no money to pay for the taxi and I offered to pay for it myself but, when Mr. Bharmota the taxi driver found out why we had called for a taxi in the first place, he was very kind and compassionate with the youth and refused to charge for the ride,” Const. Rob Renner said in a statement.
In recognition of Bharmota’s kind gesture, Renner presented him with a “Certificate of Appreciation,” issued by Supt. Todd Preston, the Officer in Charge of West Shore RCMP.
