Widening, lighting upgrades set for Sidney's west bike/pedestrian path

Construction could start any day on the west side of the Pat Bay Highway path near Sidney after council awarded a contract for the work on July 15.

Eight tenders were received by the closing date and after evaluation by the project engineer, Onsite Engineering Ltd. identified three potential candidates.

C-1 was recommended by staff, and approved by council, with the lowest bid of $484,225 to do the enhancements, including widening and lighting improvements. The approved 2024 capital budget for this project is $809,000

The first two phases of the project, from Beacon Avenue West to Malaview Avenue West were done in 2020 and 2021 and this final phase of the path upgrades, completing the remaining section from Malaview to the pedestrian overpass at McDonald Park Road and Highway 17.
