A 24-year-old woman’s vehicle was impounded and she is being asked to pay thousands of dollars in fines after being arrested for driving while impaired, failing to remain at the scene of a collision and obstructing a police officer.
West Shore frontline officers responded to a report of a collision in Langford near Costin Avenue and Leigh Road on Monday (Jan. 22).
Officers arrived on the scene and bystanders said they were trying to prevent the driver of a 2018 Chevrolet Cruze from continuing to drive after colliding with a 2020 GMC Sierra.
RCMP said the driver of the Chevrolet Cruze was displaying signs of alcohol impairment and didn’t cooperate with the police investigation.
Just minutes prior, the Chevrolet Cruze left behind its licence plate after hitting a chain link fence on a nearby tennis court lane and also struck a parked Ford Fusion on Bray Avenue and Rita Road, according to police.
The driver of the Chevrolet Cruze was arrested and issued an immediate roadside prohibition, a $368 ticket for failing to remain at the scene of an accident and a $196 ticket for failing to stop when in an accident resulting in damage to property. Her vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days, and she has been asked to pay the fees and penalties.
“It’s remarkable that no one suffered major injuries in this incident,” said West Shore RCMP Cpl. Nancy Saggar in a news release. ‘We are thankful to the bystanders who called police right away. They prevented the driver from continuing to wreak havoc on the roadway by driving impaired.”
