West Shore RCMP confirm that Aug. 3 car crash on Sooke Road resulted in a fatality.

A crash that closed Sooke Road on Aug. 3 claimed the life of a woman, police confirmed.

West Shore RCMP responded to the serious collision near the 2900-block of Sooke Road in Langford on Sunday at about 4:10 p.m.

The road was closed in both directions between Humpback Road and West Shore Parkway for several hours before reopening around 8 p.m.

Witnesses reported the collision occurred when a grey 2008 Hyundai Elantra travelling westbound crossed the centre line into oncoming traffic and collided with a white 2019 Toyota Avalon.

Despite lifesaving efforts by first responders, the driver of the Hyundai, a 34-year-old woman, died at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the Toyota Avalon were transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

“West Shore RCMP extends its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” the detachment said in a news release.

Cpl. Nancy Saggar, media relations officer for West Shore RCMP reminds drivers to obey the speed limit and take safety precautions.

"If you notice a vehicle driving erratically keep a good distance between it and yourself, when safe to do so please call police right away to report erratic driving behaviour."

The collision remains under investigation. Officers have spoken to several witnesses and are asking anyone with dash camera footage who was driving on Sooke Road between Jacklin Avenue and the 2900-block of Sooke Road between 3:50 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. to review their footage.

“Investigators are particularly interested in any video that may show the Hyundai Elantra travelling westbound prior to the crash,” said West Shore RCMP.

Anyone with dash camera footage that may assist police is asked to call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.
