A youth support worker with experience in public service and community advocacy will be facing another seven candidates looking for a spot around the Esquimalt council table as the township byelection approaches.
Marcus McCullough has a background of working in disaster recovery and economic development with the government of Alberta, Indigenous relations and the former Alberta Ministry of Human Services.
"[He] brings a wealth of knowledge about navigating the complexities of government systems. His work has provided valuable insights into how federal, provincial, and municipal governments can collaborate to address pressing issues such as housing affordability, economic opportunities, and community well-being," noted a news release.
Since his transition into youth social work in B.C., McCullough says he has worked "tirelessly" with vulnerable youth in Esquimalt, which he says offers a unique perspective on the challenges facing the quality of life for Esquimalt residents, particularly those who are at risk.
The 2025 Esquimalt byelection general voting day is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, with two advance voting days – March 26 and April 2 – and mail ballots adding additional voting opportunities.
