The University of Victoria Vikes soccer teams are preparing for their final regular season games, with both the men's and women's squads vying for favourable playoff positions in the Canada West conference.
The women's team, currently holding third place in the Pacific Division with a 6-2-4 record, will host two home games at Centennial Stadium. They face the University of British Columbia Okanagan Heat on Friday, Oct. 18, and the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack on Sunday, Oct. 20. These matches are crucial as the top two seeds in the division will host quarterfinal match-ups.
Meanwhile, the men's team, sitting in second place with an impressive 8-1-4 record, will travel for their final games. They'll face Trinity Western University on Friday and the University of the Fraser Valley on Sunday. The team has been on a strong defensive streak, not conceding a goal in their last four matches.
Both teams feature standout performers. Ruby Nicholas leads the women's team with eight goals, ranking third in the conference, while Matthew Pearse tops the men's squad with six goals, placing him third in the conference as well.
As the regular season concludes, both Vikes teams are looking to secure their positions for the upcoming Canada West playoffs.
