5 ways to celebrate spring in Esquimalt

Celebrating one of Esquimalt’s beloved Buccaneer Days BBQ is one of the many ways you can relax and unwind this May at the Township.

Spring is blooming in Esquimalt, and there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy it. From finding a new favorite park this spring or a new program for the summer and the early-opening Adventure Park to pirate-themed barbecues, there’s something for everyone. Here are five fresh, fun ways to connect with your community this May.

  1. Get ready for summer recreation! – Summer programs are viewable on the Esquimalt website, explore our programs and plan for your summer recreation now! Registration opens May 7 at 11 p.m. for general programs, and summer swimming lessons are viewable online on May 14 and  registration opens June 1 at 11:00pm spots tend to fill quickly – visit https://ow.ly/TYSh50V6kgA
  2. Kick off Buccaneer Days with a community barbecue – Celebrate one of Esquimalt’s favourite springtime traditions at the Buccaneer Days Kick-off Barbecue at noon, on May 8. Dress in your best pirate-themed outfit and join friends and neighbours for a lively afternoon of entertainment and a lunch of a hamburger, chips, ice cream sandwich and beverage. Sponsored by Country Grocer, this all-ages event is a great way to honour the volunteers who make Buccaneer Days happen each year. Tickets are $10.50 + tax per person. Space is limited and registration is strongly encouraged.
  3. Splash into the season at Esquimalt Adventure Park – Spring sunshine has arrived early, and with it comes the joyful sound of children playing in the water. The splash pad at Esquimalt Adventure Park is now open for the season – two weeks ahead of schedule! Operating daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 527 Fraser St. beside Esquimalt Recreation Centre, find interactive water features, shaded seating areas and nearby picnic spots. An ideal destination for families looking to enjoy the outdoors, the splash pad is scheduled to remain open until Sept. 16, weather and events permitting.
  4. Check out our many parks – Esquimalt has no shortage of beautiful parks, enjoy the beautiful spring weather by exploring all the parks Esquimalt has to offer.   5. Connect with your community at the Mayor’s Open Door – If you have questions, ideas or simply want to connect with local leadership, drop in to Mayor Barb Desjardins' next Open Door session, an opportunity for casual, drop-in conversations – no appointment necessary. The next session takes place Friday, May 16, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Esquimalt Municipal Hall. All residents are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis.
