Esquimalt launches seasonal indoor pickleball courts for all ages

The Township of Esquimalt is serving up excitement with its new pickleball program, inviting enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels to grab their paddles and join in the fun. 

The Archie Browning Sports Centre Curling Arena has been transformed into a bustling hub for pickleball action, offering dynamic programs and court rentals that will run through until Sept. This seasonal sport is set to re-launch in the spring of 2025, promising an ongoing commitment to this rapidly growing sport.

For those new to the sport, pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis, and is played with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes. Its accessibility makes it an ideal activity for people of all ages and fitness levels, promoting both physical fitness and social interaction.

Esquimalt’s pickleball courts will operate on a first-come, first-served basis, but all participants must register for programs and court rentals. Registration for spring and summer programs is already open, with the parks and rec team enthusiastically welcoming new faces to the courts.

In addition to the seasonal indoor courts, the Esquimalt Recreation Centre will continue to maintain its commitment to offer pickleball to the community throughout the winter. In the fall, the curling rink will return to the Archie Browning Sports Centre, allowing locals to choose from a variety of sports. 

The launch of the pickleball program in Esquimalt is more than just a new addition to the recreational calendar; it's a celebration of community spirit and active living.
