Back by popular demand, Esquimalt Parks and Recreation is sharing the magic of outdoor movies this August with family-friendly films playing in local parks every Wednesday evening. Pack a picnic, grab a blanket and come on out for summer nights spent with family and friends.

All Rated G, movies begin at dusk (between 8:30-9:00pm) and Country Crepes or The Hot Dog Guy will be on site serving delicious treats! Choose from the following favourites or come watching them all!

Aug 7: Raya and the Last Dragon, at Bullen Park, 1140 Lyall St.

Set in the mystical world of Kumandra, where dragons once lived harmoniously with humans, Raya and the Last Dragon follows the journey of Raya (voiced by Kelly Marie Tran). When an ancient evil force called the Druun resurfaces, Raya must unite her fractured land by finding the last dragon, Sisu (voiced by Awkwafina). Along the way, she faces the challenge of bringing together the warring factions of Kumandra to restore peace.

Aug. 14: Cruella, playing at at Esquimalt Gorge Park 1070 Tillicum Rd

Cruella is a live-action prequel that explores the backstory of the iconic villain, Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians. Set in 1970s London during the punk rock era, the film follows Estella (Emma Stone), an aspiring young fashion designer.

With the help of two mischievous friends, Estella catches the eye of fashion mogul Baroness von Hellman (Emma Thompson). As she rises in the fashion world under the Baroness's mentorship, Estella gradually transforms into the ruthless and vengeful Cruella de Vil.

Aug. 21: Onward, at Bullen Park, 1140 Lyall St.

Onward follows teenage elf Ian Lightfoot (Tom Holland), who struggles with shyness at school and has no friends. His outgoing older brother, Barley (Chris Pratt), is passionate about the fantasy and magic of their world before technology took over. Ian longs to spend time with their late father, who died when Ian was young.

When a spell to bring their father back goes wrong, only the lower half of their dad appears. With just 24 hours to complete the spell, Ian and Barley embark on a frantic quest to reunite with their father fully.

Aug. 28: Jumanji, at Esquimalt Gorge Park 1070 Tillicum Rd.

Starring Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst and Bonnie Hunt in an adaptation of the award-winning children's book, Jumanji follows young Alan Parrish, who is transported into a jungle world after discovering a mysterious board game. He remains trapped for 26 years until two children free him.

Now an adult, Alan (Williams) teams up with his old friend Sarah (Hunt) and the children, Judy (Dunst) and Peter (Bradley Pierce), to overcome the game's powerful forces. This adventure combines special effects with comedy, magic and thrills.
