The West Shore welcomes a new distillery this February, celebrating both craft spirits and a vibrant community experience.
Ryes and Shine Craft Distillery, currently in its final stages of renovations, is introducing a Founders Club designed for whisky lovers, cocktail enthusiasts and those passionate about the art of spirits.
“Our goal is to bring a spirit-forward experience to the West Shore,” says Kelly Darwin, Founder and Distiller. “We want to create a community that loves experimenting with cocktails and different spirits on all levels, we are more than just whisky.”
The Founders Club offers exclusive perks, including early access to workshops, product launches, master classes, and experiences including an annual Founders event. Membership is limited to 25 spots, with only 8 remaining before the grand opening in February.
“We’re not even open yet, and the response has been incredible,” Darwin says. “We’re hoping to tap into even more enthusiasm as we approach opening day.”
Workshops and creative events will be key features of the distillery’s offerings. The cocktail bar, led by Max Freund, formerly of downtown Victoria's Little Jumbo, promises to bring innovation and expertise.
“Max is well-known for his creativity, and he will have full rein in creating a cocktail program that will give a nod to classic cocktails while pushing the envelope on new creations” Darwin says. “We are planning to have cocktail-making workshops, an accredited cocktail school as well as both gin and Moonshine clubs.”
The Founders Club goes beyond exclusive perks. With exclusive access and personalized newsletters, members will stay closely connected to all the distillery’s developments and industry events. The small membership size ensures a tight-knit community.
Applications for the Founders Club can be submitted online at ryesandshine.ca. Interested individuals are also encouraged to visit the distillery and tasting room, where renovations are nearing completion, to meet the team and learn more about the initiative.
“This isn’t about fundraising,” Darwin explains. “It’s about building something special – a space where people can enjoy spirits and connect with others who share the same passion.”
The distillery is also planning public events, including gin-making workshops, whisky release parties, and other community-focused gatherings.
“We’ll bring something truly unique to the area,” Darwin says. “The response so far shows just how excited people are for something like this in the West Shore.”
