This year's 19th annual Story Fest will take place on Sept. 21 at Esquimalt Town Square, entertaining and educating youth.

It’s a calm Saturday morning where the hustle of the week fades away. You’ve dressed the kids in their favourite costumes as they’ve been excited about this day for weeks. As you leave the house and approach Esquimalt Town Square the inviting atmosphere and cheerful sounds of live music greet you. You’ve made it to Esquimalt's 19th annual Story Fest!

Coming to Esquimalt Town Square Sept. 21, this year’s theme, Fabulous Fairy Tales and Fables, promises a day of magical storytelling and delightful activities for families and children.

  • Enchanting storytelling: Be captivated by a stellar line-up of talented storytellers who'll bring to life beloved fairy tales and fables. Let your imagination soar as they weave tales of adventure and wonder.
  • Live music: Enjoy the sounds of lively, family-friendly music that will set the perfect tone for a day of fun and festivity.
  • Lunch with a cause: Savour a scrumptious by-donation lunch prepared by the Lion’s Club, with generous support from Country Grocer. All proceeds will benefit the Macaulay Literacy Program, helping to foster a love of reading and learning in children.
  • Free books for kids: Thanks to the generosity of 1000 x 5, children from newborn to age 12 can pick up free books to take home, sparking a lifelong love of reading.
  • Costumes encouraged: Embrace the magic of the day by dressing up as your favourite fairy tale character! Whether you’re a brave knight, a whimsical fairy, or a clever princess, your costume will add to the festive atmosphere.
  • A visit from Fairy Godmother: Come have your photo taken with the Fairy Godmother and hear her tell an enchanting story!

In addition to entertaining youth and connecting families, Community Development Programmer Tara Silva believes it also inspires youth to read.

"Esquimalt Story Fest has united our community for nearly 20 years, celebrating storytelling's power to connect us and inspire our children. The joy of seeing kids embrace reading and imagination makes every effort worthwhile. We're proud to create something with such a lasting impact on families."
