Warm up the popcorn: Esquimalt outdoor movie nights begin Aug. 6

From superheroes to singing llamas, discover which family faves are lighting up the big screen under the stars

Esquimalt Parks and Recreation is sharing the magic of outdoor movies this August with family-friendly films playing in local parks starting Aug. 6.

Looking for the perfect way to spend a warm August evening with family or friends? Esquimalt Parks and Recreation’s Summer Outdoor Movie Series is back by popular demand – and it’s better than ever.

With a lineup of family-friendly favourites, delicious food trucks and scenic local parks, these free movie nights offer something magical for everyone.

When & where
Movies are scheduled every Tuesday evening in August, starting at sunset (approximately 8:30 p.m.) and running until 11:30 p.m. Two venues will alternate hosting duties:

  • Esquimalt Gorge Park – 1070 Tillicum Rd.
  • Bullen Park – 527 Fraser St.

Bring your camping chair or a cosy blanket, and settle in under the stars for a night of cinematic fun.

The lineup

  • Aug. 6 – Big Hero 6 (Bullen Park)
    This heartwarming and action-packed adventure follows robotics whiz Hiro and his inflatable healthcare companion, Baymax, as they team up with friends to become unlikely superheroes. (Food truck: Country Crepes)
  • Aug. 13 – Encanto (Esquimalt Gorge Park)
    Dive into the colourful world of the Madrigal family in this magical Colombian tale that celebrates uniqueness, family and the power of self-worth. (Food truck: The Hot Dog Guys)
  • Aug. 20 – The Emperor’s New Groove (Bullen Park)
    Laugh along with Emperor Kuzco and kind-hearted villager Pacha as they navigate hilarious obstacles (including being turned into a llama!) in this classic Disney comedy. (Food truck: Country Crepes)
  • Aug. 27 – Enchanted (Esquimalt Gorge Park)
    When a fairy tale princess finds herself transported to modern-day Manhattan, she must navigate the real world in her search for true love. Expect music, magic and a lot of heart. (Food truck: The Hot Dog Guys)

Tips for a great night out

  • Arrive early to grab a good spot.
  • Dress in layers – it cools off once the sun sets.
  • Don’t forget bug spray and a flashlight for the walk back to the car.
  • Support local vendors by enjoying treats from featured food trucks.
